27. Get Unstuck with Yoga: Pratipaksha Bhavana

A common tenet of Ayurveda is "like increases like, and opposites bring balance". On this episode, we explore where that idea comes from in a few places in yoga philosophy (including ancient texts such as the Upanishad and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali), as well as how practical examples of how to apply these concepts to your yoga practice and everyday life.

The origin of the phrase "pratipaksha bhavana" (which roughly translates to cultivate the opposite) comes from Yoga Sutra 2.33, which says "When disturbed by negative thoughts, cultivate the opposite mental attitude." With that in mind, in this episode we discuss practices and evidence for changing negative thoughts to positive ones. I also discuss how this is relevant to deciding which Ayurvedic practices to choose, and how to get unstuck in your life using this philosophy.
